No Time to Exercise

Author: Wendy Okkema

I hear so many women say that they have no time to exercise. Is it time you are lacking or is it energy, desire or imagination. It may be a combination of two or more of these but help is on the way.

As a mom of three boys and wife of a shift worker, I truly understand the lack of time, energy and even the desire to exercise. As a personal trainer, it was my imagination that kicked in many years ago.

If your ultimate goal is weight loss and a healthier lifestyle, there are many ways to go about this. First, recognize your season of life.

Maybe your lifestyle, finances or both will not afford you a gym membership. That really is o.k. Exercise at home and change your eating habits.

Hate the thought of exercise? That’s o.k. Change your eating habits, look for ways that you can fit exercise in as you go about your daily responsibilities. How about parking in the farthest parking spot at the mall or grocery store.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator when the opportunity presents itself. I even had a lady tell me that she did twelve squats before she went up the stairs and 12 squats once she reached the top. Something on a similar note, how about twelve push ups on the wall before you put your laundry in the wash and twelve once the load begins. Use your imagination.

Are you a stay at home mom wanting to fit in a full exercise routine? Here’s how to make that happen. Take advantage of nap time. As soon as your precious one goes down for their first nap, exercise. The dishes, tidying and the vacuuming can be done later even while your little one is awake. Trust me, your mess will wait for you.

Recognize your season of life, work withing your limitations. We all have them no matter what our situation is in life but don’t forget to keep your eyes open for the many opportunities that you do have.

If you really want to lose weight, change your attitude about it. Get excited about the necessary changes that need to take place.

Plan It: Write down how you can achieve your goal. Be realistic. Don’t set yourself up for failure, set yourself up for success. Remember that slow and steady wins the race.

Do It: Be wise. Seek professional help. Also remember that when you have an inkling to exercise, do it. Because that inkling may never get any stronger.
